Winning an award is great for business. It gives you recognition, it gives your customers faith in what you do and it motivates the entire team. Everyone loves a winner. There are lots of different awards being run all the time. Some are industry specific, some are geographically specific—it doesn’t really matter, an award is an award. Many businesses don’t bother entering awards because it can take up quite a bit of time actually filling in the submissions.
There are often lots of questions that need to be answered and these can require a reasonable amount of attention. But entering awards should be considered a marketing activity. If you are looking for a competitive advantage, being an award winner is certainly one very good boost. If you are fortunate enough to win an award make sure you let everyone know.
Put the certificate on your office wall in a prominent place, and make mention of the award on your website and on all of your promotional material. Keeping the certificate in the bottom drawer really is a waste of time and a missed golden opportunity. I always recommend my clients enter awards wherever possible and those that win really do get quite a lift.
